Meet & Match : Executive Club @TSP 2014 The Story of Success and Collaboration between Researchers and Private Sector


          Feb 7, 2014 – Thailand Science Park (TSP), in conjunction with TSP Private Tenant Club, organized Meet & Match : Executive Club @TSP 2014 to offer a chance for executives from the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and private companies located in TSP to share and discuss ideas for further business development and research collaboration.

          The annual event was held under the warm-welcoming atmosphere at Innovation Cluster 2 (INC 2) Tower A, Thailand Science Park.

Veterinarian Rutjawate Taharnklaew, the former president of TSP Private Tenant Club and the director of Research and Development Center at Betagro Group, gave an opening speech at the event.

He said that Thailand Science Park was a vital source for innovation development. It’s the place where facilities were built to encourage research and development atmosphere for private sector.

          A variety of activities have been initiated to create a linkage between researchers from private sector and those from NSTDA’s four national research centers, he added.
          In the event, Veterinarian Rutjawate handed over the role of the club’s president to the new president Dr. Sittichai Daengprasert, the managing director of CDIP (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

NSTDA’s executive vice president Dr. Narong Sirilertworakul gave an honor to offer souvenir to Veterinarian Rutjawate.

Dr. Narong also affirmed the role of NSTDA in supporting TSP Private Tenant Club’s activities as well as all TSP’s private tenants to conduct research and development within Thailand Science Park.

          “We’re welcomed to create collaboration with private sector in various fields to encourage innovation development that can be transferred for further commercialization. The success of private sector is also our success,” he said.

          NSTDA has currently 2,000 qualified researchers in four national centers, of which over 500 are PhD researchers. The agency laid down a variety of facility infrastructure to stimulate private sector to conduct research and development.

Advance testing equipments, for example, are available so private sector can use the facility service to continue their research works while soft loan and tax incentives are offered to private research companies.

A digital library, called Science and Technology Knowledge Services (STKS), which contains the database of research works from worldwide, is also accessible.

          As the new president of TSP Private Tenant Club, Dr. Sittichai gave his vision towards the club’s activities this year. He also reported the club’s progress that around 45 per cent of the total research projects conducted by its 65 company members were collaborative research projects with NSTDA.

Dr. Janekrishna Kanatharana, the assistant to NSTDA’s president overseeing Thailand Science Park, showed the success of Thailand Science Park Phase 2 and the development of innovation cluster. He said the new Innovation Cluster 2 (INC 2), a group of buildings designed to encourage R&D conduction, was now ready to welcome private tenants to start their research-related business in the park.

          He added that the park planned to initiate a new project, called RDX Debit Point, by allocating some parts of TSP’s renting fee to support research and development activities initiated by NSTDA and its networked organizations.

          To boost science and technology business, the park is to organize S&T Job Fair 2014 during April 1-3, 2014 at Sirindhorn Science Home located in Thailand Science Park. The fair will allow private companies to exhibit their S&T business while recruit human resources specialized in S&T field.

          Representatives from TSP’s private tenants coming on stage to discuss and show the success of research collaboration was the highlight of Meet & Match event. The discussion was conducted by U-sarat Bunnag, the senior director of Marketing and Cluster Promotion Division at Thailand Science Park.

          In the first session, Jiraporn Supajampiya, the acting director of Design and Engineering Consulting Service Center (DECC) at NSTDA and Sarawut Buaprasert, the general manager of Greattech Cybernetics Co., Ltd shared the experience on the formation of research collaboration with Nidec Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd, the manufacturer of Spindle Motors for HDDs.

          Three TSP’s private tenants also got a chance to share their success story in creating research partnership with NSTDA’s national research centers as follow:
 

 

1. CDIP (Thailand) Co., Ltd cooperates with the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) to conduct a research on supplements and cosmetics.

 

 

2. Thai Dental International Co., Ltd creates a partnership with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) to develop dental unit for the disability.

 

3. Betagro Science Center Co., Ltd works with the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) to conduct food research.
