13 December 2024 – The Cyberport, a leading digital technology incubation hub, in collaboration with Thailand Science Park (TSP), successfully hosted the first-ever webinar, “Pathway to Thailand: Cyberport X Thailand Science Park.” The event attracted over 40 startups from Hong Kong and aimed to establish a business networking platform between the two organisations while expanding investment opportunities for digital startups in Thailand.

The webinar began with a warm welcome by Mr. Henry Li, Head of Ecosystem Development at Cyberport, followed by Prof. Joseph Koc, Global Ambassador of Cyberport and Advisor to TSP. Prof. Koc, a driving force behind this collaboration, highlighted the purpose of the webinar, stating,

“This webinar was designed to support Cyberport startups seeking to expand their businesses into Thailand by presenting information on investment opportunities and the various incentives that Thailand offers to international tech entrepreneurs.”

Dr. Sanat Wongthaweethong, Deputy Director of TSP, introduced the mission and innovation support mechanisms of Thailand Science Park. Following this, representatives from the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI), Mr. Anand Srisaenpang and Ms. Praewa Chatkoonsathien, shared detailed insights into Thailand’s investment opportunities and promotion policies tailored for the digital industry.

Additionally, Mr. James Lam, Manager at the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), presented funding opportunities for Hong Kong startups planning to expand into Southeast Asia. He emphasised the Hong Kong government’s focus on fostering businesses ready to grow in the region.

The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where startups actively engaged and shared their perspectives. The overwhelming response exceeded expectations, indicating the strong interest in exploring business opportunities in Thailand.

Reflecting on the webinar’s success, Dr. Sanat remarked,

The event is expected to pave the way for stronger partnerships between Hong Kong and Thailand’s innovation ecosystems, create more job opportunities, and stimulate Thailand’s tech-based economy. “We hope this initiative will inspire Hong Kong startups to choose Thailand as their first investment destination, leveraging BOI’s extensive support and the innovation-driven opportunities we offer at Thailand Science Park,”.
