As regional innovation ecosystems continue to become increasingly interconnected, Thailand Science Park (TSP), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), continues to strengthen its role as a gateway for international innovation collaboration in ASEAN. On 14 May 2026, Thailand Science Park welcomed delegations under the Economic Cooperation and Industrial Digital Transformation Promotion Program between the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and the Greater Bay Area (GBA) at Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani. The visit aimed to exchange knowledge and explore future collaboration opportunities in science, technology, digital industries, and innovation ecosystem development between Thailand and China.

Dr. Chularat Tanprasert, Executive Vice President of NSTDA and Director of Thailand Science Park, officially welcomed the delegation led by Mr. Kajtiti Wiwatwanont, Consul General in Guangzhou, together with representatives from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Guangzhou and delegates from key GBA cities in Guangdong Province, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing. The delegation comprised representatives from organizations related to economic development, industry, science, technology, and investment, reflecting a shared ambition to strengthen regional innovation partnerships and deepen collaboration between Thailand and China.

The visit further reinforced the collaboration initiated through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Thailand Science Park and Qianhai Shenzhen–Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub (EHUB) in November 2025. The partnership focuses on connecting innovation ecosystems, supporting startups, and creating technology business opportunities between Thailand, China, and Hong Kong, particularly within the Greater Bay Area, one of China’s most dynamic economic and technology hubs with a population of more than 80 million people.

During the program, the delegation received an overview of NSTDA’s role as Thailand’s national platform for research, development, and technology business support, including presentations from the national research centers:

• Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC),
• Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC),
• Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC).

These centers play a significant role in advancing Thailand’s research and innovation capabilities while also opening new opportunities for international collaboration across strategic industries and emerging technologies.

A key highlight of the visit included exhibition showcases and a tour of the National Biobank of Thailand (NBT), one of Thailand’s key national infrastructures for the preservation and management of biological resources and genetic information. The facility supports research, development, and the advancement of Thailand’s bioeconomy in a sustainable manner.

The discussions also explored several future collaboration opportunities in technology research and development, startup support, and innovation network development between Thailand and China. These included potential collaboration between NECTEC and Shenzhen on OpenHarmony Open System Collaboration to promote open-source operating systems and digital technologies for industrial applications, as well as the possibility of establishing a Thailand–China Co-Funding Program to support joint innovation and technology development projects.

In addition, MTEC and Huizhou explored opportunities for collaboration in materials science research and development, aiming to strengthen knowledge exchange and create new opportunities for industrial sectors and technology entrepreneurs in both countries.
